Oh, hello there! I took a little break (from just about everything), but it was much needed! When my husband returned home a few days before Christmas, he'd been gone for over 4 weeks and I was exhausted!
While I did carve out time to catch up on Project Life (yes!), I literally spent day after day on the couch. I might regret my laziness later but right now, I'm totally ok with it.
However, I've had plenty of time to catch up on blog reading. Some of my favorite people have been recapping 2012, and I thought it would be fun to play along! It wasn't easy, but I narrowed it down to my top twelve of twentytwelve (in no particular order):
1. favorite purchase:
I had my eye on the cart from IKEA and was over the moon when I finally brought one home. Minutes after I put it together, Lauryn claimed it as her own and put it to good use :)
2. favorite birthday:
Taking my baby doll-loving four year old for High Tea at American Girl was awesome!
3. favorite self-portrait:
I don't think I take very good self-portraits, but I was pretty happy with this one.
4. favorite olympic moment:
We watched the 2012 Olympics like maniacs. Aly Raisman steadying Gabby Douglas (who turned 17 today!) by saying "you've GOT this" will go down as one of my favorite Olympic moments. Ever.
5. favorite grand opening:
We're from the west coast. The fact that we survived in Texas for 18 months before Trader Joe's opened is a miracle.
6. favorite special occasion:
My baby girl attended her first prom.
7. favorite close up:
How can you not love this face??
8. favorite business partnerships:
Definitely a tie between filling a custom order for Google and partnering with Freckled Fawn. Both experiences were beyond my wildest dreams.
9. favorite new snack:
2012 was the year of the kale chip in our house. Homemade kale chips + air popped popcorn + shredded parmesan have become my go-to comfort food.
10. favorite happy mail:
My dear friend Julie makes amazing cake pops and sent a box full for the little ones. The little snowmen were beyond cute and so yummy!
11. favorite new beverage:
Hello Green Monster! 2012 was also the year of the Green Monster. My system doesn't like a ton of fruit sugar, so I always had an issue with smoothies (whether homemade or store-bought). Due to the high quantity of fresh spinach in each serving, the Green Monster has converted me into a smoothie drinker :)
12. favorite surprising news:
It's a very long story (which is clearly accompanied by a funky iPhone photo), but our oldest is headed to NYC in 2013 for a fashion field trip. Our final payment is due in a few weeks. Just before Christmas, we found out that she raised $581 during their fundraiser (selling popcorn at school for most of the semester). That is $581 that we DON'T have to pay! I think we're still in shock.
2012 has been grand. It was our first full year in Texas and it was chock full of growth.
Goodbye 2012! It's been real.
xo,
e
