My last post was inspired by this post by Ali. I also loved her follow up, using one of her layered templates, so I dug out my digi supplies and whipped this up:
I was also really intrigued by this layout by Cathy Zielske. I love the idea of being able to tell my stories here on the blog, and simply cutting and pasting to turn it into a memorable layout.

Hi all-
For those of you not on Facebook, my husband and I are in Las Vegas for the next 6 days! We've had this trip planned for over a year and it really couldn't have come at a better time. We are both in need of a little downtime, and we're definitely getting it.
We had a fantastic dinner last night, and we're headed out to n9ne and to see the Michael Jackson movie in a few hours. Right now, we are on our laptops doing what we do best: not a damn thing.
I, of course, brought a bunch of scrap supplies and I've already made a mini album (even though we just arrived yesterday) and have plans to make at least one more. I'm also hoping to update my online galleries, make some headway on my album for Cathy's class at BPS, and do a little holiday business planning for my shop.
I'll be back tomorrow with some announcements and a few sneaky peeks!

Hey everyone!
Sorry it's been so long. I've been in Northern California for almost a week now; every day I've promised myself to post, but I've just been SO tired by the time I get to bed. I guess that's what I get for not preparing some automating posts before I left (that was my original plan).
Anyway, I thought I'd share my travel mini for this trip:
I took an old hardcover book (totally forgot to take "before" photos), removed all of the pages, covered it with patterned paper and covered the spine with white Duck tape.
After poking holes in the spine, I installed a binder mechanism and voila, a binder!
I filled my book with a ton of paper from Cocoa Daisy's August kit and with some odds and ends from my studio (excuse the glare; I took the photos at night):
My original intention was to simply punch holes and add things like I have done in the past. BUT, after drooling over THIS, I think I'm going to turn this into a hybrid journal. My hope is to create 5x7 vertical photo spreads (much like Elise did) and just intersperse them along with all of the patterned paper and other goodies. I may have to play some of this by ear, since the binder's rings are much smaller than the ones I normally use.

Sheesh! It's about time, right? Sorry for the delay on this, getting all of the photos together took me MUCH longer than I expected.
So when I travel, not only do I take along a crafty project, I also like to pre-create a minibook so that I can capture my travel memories while I'm on the road:
Here's my New Orleans (NOLA) 2009 travel journal. I bound the book (in the same way I bound this one) and added all of the pages before I left for my trip. While traveling, I was able to jot down notes and stories right in the minibook, so I wouldn't have to carry a separate notebook. Once I got home, I just had to print some photos, punch a few holes and throw them in the book!
My favorite part about a book like this is that I can add ANYTHING I want to them: airline tickets, receipts and a ton of photos. There are about 30 photos so far, but I'll probably add a few more :)

It has been months since I've scrapped; I've spent most of my crafty time making (many) mini books, binding books and trying to get some of my creative business ideas down on paper. While I was in New Orleans, I had plenty of time to think about scrapping, make sketches and find inspiration. So, when I got home and cracked open July's Kenner Road kit (Scarborough Faire - it's divine!), I knew I needed to whip something up:

Anytime I'm heading out of town, even if it's only for a long weekend, I tend to stress about not being able to sit and create in my studio. Thus, 90% of the time, I pack a project or 2 to work on while I'm on the road. When I booked our New Orleans trip, I quickly prepped a travel mini (which I will share tomorrow) but I knew I would want something a little meatier to play with during my down time:
I packed up my favorite patterened papers and embellishments from the July Girls' Loft kit (the very first one!), along with this sweet little KI Memories album:
I decided to make a small (this one is 4x4) gift album documenting my stepdaughter's trip out to Seattle this July. I had a bunch of 4x6 photos printed up at WalMart here in town, so all I had to do was crop them down to 4x4.
Here's the title page:
Each spread in the book completed the phrase, "This summer you..." and included at least one photo on the right and patterned paper, embellishments and journaling on the left:
And, the last page:
I had a few page protectors left over, so I filled those with the rest of the patterned paper and cardstock in case she wanted to add to her little book. I will leave it here in New Orleans so that my inlaws can give it to Madison when they see her in Houston Labor Day weekend.
Was this my best, most creative work? Nope. Do I care? Nope. I took some beautiful product and great photos to put a smile on my girls face. That's why I do what I do :)

Recently, a little birdie thought that I wasn't creating much anymore, since she hasn't seen anything new on my blog. Ha! I'm creating like crazy, I'm just too lazy to edit and post a ton of photos! Right now, I'm vowing to end all of that silliness.
2 of my good friends (who also happen to be neighbors) had birthdays recently, so I decided to be crafty with their gifts.
Lisa (who lives right across the street) is a brilliant artist; I knew that she and her family were headed overseas, so I thought she'd like a travel journal/sketchbook. Here's what I came up with:
It's a coptic bound journal with painted chipboard covers.
The interior pages are a combination of sketch paper, watercolor paper and vintage sheet music:
My girl Suzanne had a birthday a few weeks ago, and I presented her with an album her family can help her with:
Each member of her family has their own tab in the book (5 total). I thought her kids would enjoy punching holes in some of their photos and adding them in. Here are a few of them:

If you're interested in the construction of the album itself, check out this tutorial by Jamaica. I simply used contact paper for the spine instead of bookbinding tape :)
